6cyl Radial Engine - 2020
This is my most recent project involving 3d printed engines. It is a 6 cylinder radial engine that utilizes the same concepts from my 2 cylinder 3d printed engines. There are 6 slider plates, one for each piston (compared to 1 slider plate for 2 pistons in the earlier versions. Unfortunately I never was able to print out the entire pneumatic engine, due to lack of materials and printer maintenance difficulties. Piggybacking off of what I learned about 3d printing and pressured things: the bigger surface area between 2 different 3d printed parts, the more difficult it is to maintain a high pressure space. I added O-rings in-between the cylinders and the main housing to reduce leaking. Also, I added metal inserts for the cylinder bore to reduce friction between the cylinder and the piston.
